The Library of the Institute of Tax Administration is a member of the Tanzania Library Association and is one of the biggest repositories of customs and taxation materials in the country. The library offers professional library and computing services to its clients who are students of ITA, staff of TRA and other approved users.

Capacity and facilities

The Library has a sitting capacity of 135 readers at a time and has over 1,000 titles in more than 4,000 volumes, the majority being customs and taxation title or those directly related to these fields. In addition the library has modern computing facilities which offer surfing and access to online resources. All materials in the library are catalogued electronically hence users can search for them using the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) service on computers.

The library is materials are being digitized to increase access by readers who may wish to use library resources from their offices or classrooms.

There are e-resources, the journal that are subscribed from SAGE publishers through COTUL, the username and password is available to registered members upon request from the head of library services.

 

Opening timetable

ITA library is opened at 0830hours and closed at 2200hours during working days and opened at 0900 hours and closed at 13.00hrs during weekends at public holidays.

Policy and Rules

The policy of the institute is to ensure the library is being up-to-date by regularly acquire new released materials. As a result of this readers enjoy more recent released materials from world renowned publishers and authors in the fields of customs and taxation.


Matters relating to use of ITA library are administered through the ITA Library Rules, 2007

Specific regulations apply to library users while in the library, and these include:

  • Silence must be observed by all library users in the library at all times
  • Smoking and the use of matches or open light in any part of the library is strictly prohibited
  • All bags and wallets over 8 inch x 5 inch in size shall be deposited at the counter
  • Readers must dress and behave in a manner that will not cause offence, damage or inconvenience
  • All library users should show all materials in their possession at the control desk
  • Bottles of ink food, including all types of drinks and fruits, shall not be brought into the library
